Adding Your First Sermon
This walkthrough takes you from a blank install to a published sermon page with video, audio, scripture, and a speaker — in about ten minutes.
Do this first: Before adding a sermon, create a Series and a Speaker. The sermon will ask you to assign both. It only takes a moment — see the steps below.
Step 1 — Create a Series
In your WordPress admin, go to SermonFlow → Series and click Add New.
Enter the series name — for example, The Gospel of Luke.
Add a description if you have one. This shows on the series page above the sermon list.
Add a Featured Image — this is the series artwork that appears on cards and the series page header.
Click Publish.
Step 2 — Create a Speaker
Go to SermonFlow → Speakers and click Add New.
Enter the speaker's name as the title.
Fill in their Title / Role (e.g. Lead Pastor) in the Speaker Details box.
Add a Featured Image — this is their headshot photo. It shows as a circle on every sermon card.
Click Publish.
Step 3 — Add the sermon
Go to SermonFlow → Sermons and click Add New.
Enter the sermon title — for example, Judge Not (Luke 6:37-45).
Source & Media
Video: Paste a YouTube URL (e.g.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=...), or click ↑ Upload / Select to use a video file from your media library.Audio: Paste a direct audio URL or click ↑ Upload / Select to upload an MP3.
Sermon Start Time: If your video is a full service recording, enter the time where the sermon starts — e.g.
12:34. Visitors can jump straight to the sermon.
Sermon Details
Choose the Series you created in Step 1.
Choose the Speaker you created in Step 2.
Set the Recorded Date — this is the date the sermon was preached, not the date you're entering it.
Scripture
Under Focus Passage, select the book of the Bible from the dropdown, then enter the chapter and verse range.
For example: Book = Luke, Chapter = 6, Verse = 37, End = 45. The preview shows
Luke 6:37-45.This creates a link to that passage on Bible.com on the sermon page.
Description
In the Content box, go to the Description tab.
Write a short 2-3 sentence description of the sermon. This shows below the title on the sermon page and on sermon cards.
Step 4 — Publish the sermon
Click Publish in the top right.
Click View Post to see how the sermon looks on your site.
Tip: The sermon page only shows tabs that have content. If you haven't added an Article or Bible Study yet, those tabs won't appear — and that's fine. Add more content any time by editing the sermon.
Step 5 — Add the sermon list to a page
The sermon is published, but visitors won't find it unless you add a sermon list somewhere on your site.
Go to Pages → Add New (or edit an existing page like your "Sermons" page).
Add a Shortcode block and type
[sf_sermon_list].Publish or update the page. Your sermon list is now live.
For more shortcode options, see the Shortcode Generator page — it builds the shortcode for you visually.
